Join us for an exciting conversation with Dean Lucy Gilson and Dean Cyndee Gruden from the University of New Hampshire. Their presentation will be followed by student startup pitches. There will be a tour of the Olson Center for power breakfast attendees at 9:30am following the program. 

Dean Gilson will speak briefly about her background as a researcher exploring the interplay and tensions between creativity and standardization and her work on virtual teams. She will also discuss what the Paul College is doing to ensure that their students are work ready with regard to launching new majors, minors, a speaker’s bureau, and a focus on internships. She will share changes being made to the Entrepreneurship Center to ensure it plays a central role in student experiential learning at UNH, and how AI is fitting into the curriculum inside and outside of the classroom. 

Dean Gruden will discuss how the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS) is evolving to meet these challenges. Dean Gruden will highlight the expansion of high-impact research facilities, the integration of 'design-thinking' into the core engineering and computer science curriculum, and how CEPS is partnering with industry to turn technical breakthroughs into scalable solutions. They will also touch upon the collaborative initiatives between the two colleges that are preparing UNH students to not only participate in the future economy but to build it.


Dr. Lucy Gilson

Lucy Gilson is Dean of the University of New Hampshire Peter T. Paul College of Business & Economics. Since joining UNH she has successfully led the college through AACSB re-accreditation, prioritized innovation and new program development, and worked closely with alumni and the business community to build deep and lasting relationships. She serves on the Board of the Chamber Collaborative of Greater Portsmouth and the Prescott Park Arts Festival.

Previously Gilson was the Associate Dean for Faculty & Outreach at the University of Connecticut and has served on Board of Trustees for the Academy of Management, the Southern Management Association, and as Senior Associate Editor for Group & Organization Management Journal.

Gilson’s research focuses on teams, creativity, and virtual work. In 2019 she was named by the Web of Science as one of the world’s most highly cited researchers. Her research has been published in many top management and psychology journals and in 2023 she published an edited book – The Handbook of Virtual Work.

Gilson earned her Ph.D. and MSM from Georgia Institute of Technology and her B.S. from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. 


Dr. Cyndee Gruden

Dr. Cyndee Gruden has been serving as the Dean of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of New Hampshire, her alma mater, since January of 2021. Since her return to UNH, she has led a college-wide strategic planning process, prioritized community-building, incorporated stake-holder voice in college-level decisions, and spearheaded initiatives to promote student success and wellbeing. Gruden previously worked at the University of Toledo where she served as the Associate Vice Provost for Academic Administration and Faculty Affairs and the Interim Dean of the College of Graduate Studies. During her tenure as a faculty member in the College of Engineering at the University of Toledo, she was recognized for teaching excellence, the establishment of an accredited Environmental Engineering Program, and community engaged scholarship. Dr. Gruden is a licensed Civil Engineer in the State of NH, and her professional expertise is in wastewater and stormwater management. During her career, she has collaborated widely with private sector consultants, non-profit organizations, municipalities, community members, and other academic institutions.
